Residential Structure Fire on 2nd Street

Thursday, March 17, 2022

At 07:14 hours on Wednesday May 12th, 2021, Wilmington Fire units were dispatched to 1405 W. 2nd Street for a house fire with subjects trapped.  Units responded and on arrival to the address, were notified by a resident that all occupants were outside of the home.  Engine 1 crew found fire in the walls and ceiling on the third floor of the residence and quickly isolated the fire from extending to the rest of the home.  Ladder 2 completed a search of the residence to verify all subjects were out safely and performed vertical ventilation to mitigate fire spread and smoke damage.  Battalion Chief and Incident Commander Richard Danner placed the situation under control and requested Red Cross to assist the displaced residents.  No fire or civilian injuries were reported.  At this time, Wilmington Fire Marshals are investigating the cause and origin of the fire.

Approximately 37 fire and EMS personnel responded to the fire. The following units responded: Engine 6, Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 5, Ladder 1, Ladder 2, Battalion-1, Battalion-2, F-1, Deputy 2, Deputy 3, F-9, FM-13, FM-14, FM-18, St. Francis EMS, New Castle County Paramedics, Wilmington License & Inspection, Delmarva Power, and American Red Cross.
